Connecticut Cannabis Law Changes 2026: What You Need to Know

Connecticut cannabis law changes effective October 1, 2026 explained by Nightjar Cannabis

If you’ve been wondering what the new Connecticut cannabis law changes mean for your next dispensary trip, we’ve got you. These updates took effect October 1, 2026, and they touch everything from taxes to concentrates. Here’s the breakdown from your neighbors at Nightjar Cannabis Hamden and Nightjar Cannabis East Lyme.

CT Cannabis Tax Changes: The THC Potency Tax Is Gone

Adult-use cannabis used to be taxed per milligram of THC, and effective rates climbed as high as 35% on some products. That system is out. In its place is one flat 10.75% retail excise tax on gross receipts from adult-use sales.

The 6.35% state sales tax and 3% local municipal cannabis tax didn’t change and still apply on top. Medical cannabis sales stay exempt from the new excise tax, so medical patients shop tax-free. Not certified yet? We offer free 90 day medical certifications in-store.

Out-of-State Medical Patients Can Now Shop in Connecticut

Connecticut’s medical program just opened its doors wider. Qualifying out-of-state medical patients and caregivers can now make a medical transaction at CT medical dispensaries and hybrid retailers using valid home-state medical credentials. Cannabis Infused Beverages Now Allow Up to 10mg THC

Licensed cannabis retailers in Connecticut can now sell infused beverages with up to 10mg total THC per container, up from the old 3mg limit. Sip accordingly.

Adult-Use Concentrates Are Now Available in CT

Concentrates are no longer limited to medical patients. Connecticut’s 70% THC cap on adult-use concentrates ended October 1st, so concentrates, extracts, oils, tinctures, shatter, and wax above 70% THC can now be sold to adult-use customers. That means more options and access to stronger, higher quality oils.
