FAQ

Do I need a medical card to shop at Nightjar?

Nope! You must be 21 years of age or older with a valid form of identification to shop. Just show your ID at the door and you’re in.

When are y'all open?

We’re open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 9pm and on Sundays from noon to 5pm.

What forms of ID do I need?

We accept nearly all forms of government-issued photo identification including: your NJ driver’s license or a driver’s license issued by any other state, territory or possession of the United States (we see you, Guam), a US passport or other country’s passport, a New Jersey identification card issued by the NJ motor vehicle commission, or any other identification card issued by a state, territory, possession of the US or the District of Columbia that includes your photo, name, birth date and a physical description.

I’m from out of state or a different country, can I still shop at Nightjar?

You sure can and we’re really pumped you’re coming to visit us! Please see the question above for types of IDs we can accept, but be advised that it is illegal to transport cannabis over state lines.

How much cannabis can I buy?

We’re so glad you asked. You can buy up to one ounce of cannabis or the equivalent of some combination of cannabis and cannabis products like edibles, vapes and concentrates. Your budtender can explain this to you more thoroughly, and our online ordering menu will only allow you to put the maximum amount allowed by law into your cart. If you get an error message while shopping online, you’re over the limit.

Can I place a pre-order for pickup?

Absolutely, yes and preordering is a great option if you’re looking for a quick in and out experience. And there’s more great news: same-day pick up is available 7 days a week! Submit your order online and select “pick up” – you will receive a text from us when your order is ready. No prepayment is required, orders are normally fulfilled within just a few minutes and are available for pick up before close. Simply show your ID at the door and a staffer will direct you to the pick up line to cash out and receive your order.

Orders that are not picked up by the time we close will be canceled and you will have to place a new order another time.

I placed an order during regular business hours, but I can’t come get it today. Will you hold my order for me overnight or a later date?

We’re really bummed to tell you this, but we can’t hold orders overnight or guarantee availability of inventory for a later date. Your best bet is to place your order on a day you know you will be available to come pick it up. If you see something you want on our menu, snag it before it’s gone! No time like the present.

What payment forms do you accept?

We accept cash and most debit cards. Debit card transactions carry a fee required by the payment processor. There are also two ATMs available in the store for your convenience.

Can I consume cannabis in public?

For recreational customers, this is a hard no. Eventually the state will license consumption lounges where consumers aged 21+ will be able to consume their cannabis products (looking forward to it!). For now, you’ll just have to keep it on private property.

TOP OF MIND

Whether it’s your first time or you’re an experienced cannaseur, here are some key things we need you to know.

Cannabis hits different for everyone. Get comfortable, and be patient.

Start with just a little bit (5mg or less). As we like to say, start LOW and SLOW.

Over-ingestion can cause anxiety and paranoia. Consume somewhere safe and comfortable.

Different products and strains have varying effects and uses. Try something new!

Alcohol and cannabis aren’t a good match. Don’t mix ‘em.

Don’t drive or operate machinery under the influence of cannabis.

Be sure to safely store your goods – out of reach of kids.

Have a bite before you consume. Eating may lower the intensity of effects.

Have non-cannabis snacks on hand, especially after consuming edibles.

Stay hydrated!!

WAYS TO USE

Smoking

Flower is ground up, and then gets rolled up in papers or packed into a smoking device (like a pipe or bong).  Smoke is produced and inhaled.

PROS: Super easy OG method, budget-friendly, take it wherever you please.

CONS: Might bother your lungs or your nose. Not discreet.

ONSET: Kicks in about 1 to 10 minutes after use, and typically sticks around for 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Vaporizing

Flower or oils are heated in a device just enough to release active compounds (cannabinoids and terpenes), without combustion. This produces a vapor, instead of smoke, that is then inhaled.

PROS: Discreet like a secret admirer, tasty & smooth. Eliminates undesirable byproducts of combustion.

CONS: Some say it doesn’t quite hit compared to smoking – packs a lighter punch.

ONSET: 1 to 10 minutes to onset, effects typically last for 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Edibles

Oils are extracted from flower, and infused into ingestible products like chocolates, gummies, drinks, cookies and even tongue strips for your consuming pleasure.

PROS: Easy breezy to pop an edible. Discreet, tasty, nothing to inhale into your lungs.

CONS: Patience, my friends, patience. Edibles take much longer to kick in, and it’s easier to take too much!

ONSET: It takes 30 to 90 minutes for edibles to kick in, and the party lasts 4 to 12 hours. Start LOW and go SLOW.

Topicals

Oils are extracted from flower, and infused into lotions, balms and patches that are applied directly to the skin. Used for localized relief and not absorbed into the bloodstream, cannabinoids instead hit receptors in your skin.  No high, just good vibes.

PROS: On point relief from pain and discomfort, they say, with  no smell, and totally on the DL. No high.

CONS: Timing can be a bit of a wild card, and no psychoactive effects (which might be what you’re going for!)

ONSET: 5 minutes to an hour, with effects that last from 2 to 10 hours.

TERMS TO KNOW

THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol): primary compound in cannabis that makes you feel high, or altered—it’s the fun and euphoric side of the plant, but also responsible for many of the plant’s medicinal qualities that bring relief from pain and other debilitating conditions.

CBD (Cannabidiol): used mostly for relaxation and relief without the high—it’s all about the chill vibes. Anti-inflammatory and analgesic qualities are among many that make this molecule helpful for all sorts of common ailments.

SATIVA, INDICA and HYBRID: refer to the “type” of cannabis plant. Technically, just about all strains are “hybrids” these days, but these terms are used to help sort out strains and their typical effects and physical characteristics.

Sativa strains typically give you a boost of creativity and happiness—perfect for a lively day.

Hybrid strains are the mix-and-match of cannabis, combining the best of both worlds, whether you want to relax or get things done.

Indica strains are more calming or sedative  for most, helping your body and mind unwind and get ready for a good night’s rest or chill session.

OTHER CANNABINOIDS

CBG (Cannabigerol) is like the understated hero, doing its thing to help with pain, anxiety, and inflammation.

THCv (Tetrahydrocannabivarin) is the cannabis motivator, giving you a burst of energy and focus without the long-lasting high.

CBN (Cannabinol) is the chill pill of cannabis, helping you relax and unwind, especially when you’re ready for a good night’s sleep.

CNC (Cannabinichromene) is like the team player of cannabis, joining forces with other cannabinoids to enhance the overall experience.

THCa (Tetrahydrocannabinolic Acid) is the cannabis chef’s special—it turns into THC when heated, giving you that classic high.

CBDa (Cannabidiolic Acid) is the raw, unheated version of CBD, offering potential health benefits without the high.

PLEASE NOTE: EFFECTS WILL VARY. NIGHTJAR MAKES NO MEDICAL OR HEALTH CLAIMS REGARDING CANNABIS.

RULES

Stay safe and Be cool. Follow the Rules.

Puff in Private
So, here’s the deal – you can’t light up or munch on marijuana goodies in public. Jersey’s all about keeping it chill, but the streets aren’t the spot for your green adventures.

FDA Disclaimer
Heads up, friends – cannabis hasn’t gotten the FDA thumbs-up just yet. Info on side effects is limited, and there might be health risks hanging out in the shadows. Be smart and know what you’re getting into.

Kid-Free Zone: Lock it Up
Kids and cannabis don’t mix. Keep your stash locked away like the treasure it is. Little explorers don’t need to discover your chill-out zone.

Keep the Keys Away
When you’re riding the green wave, leave the driver’s seat behind. Jersey law’s got the brakes on driving while high – it’s a no-go. And don’t even think about operating heavy machinery – you’ve got a date with relaxation, not equipment.

Stay In The Garden State
Keep your green goodies in the Garden State. No crossing state lines with your cannabis stash – it’s like an exclusive party that’s only meant for our good good Jersey soil.

Tolerance, Dependence & Withdrawal
While research has not definitively proven physical dependence on cannabis, long-term use might lead to psychological dependence. Here are indicators of substance dependence and withdrawal:

  • Neglecting responsibilities at work, school, or home due to drug use.
  • Unexplained changes in attitude or personality.
  • Losing interest in previously enjoyed activities.
  • Neglecting family and home habits.
  • Increasing tolerance, needing more substance for the same effects.
  • Using the substance to alleviate withdrawal symptoms (e.g., nausea, anxiety).
  • Feeling unable to quit despite wanting to.
