There’s something special that happens when you host a food drive. As the cans of corn, cranberry sauce, and beans begin to pile up, they start to tell a story. It’s a story about generosity, small-town decency, and how kindness still finds a way to show up.
This October, our amazing team at Nightjar Cannabis Dispensary in East Lyme, CT invited our community to do exactly that – show up. And they did!
Nightjar hosted a food drive, collecting over 40 food items to benefit Care & Share of East Lyme, a local organization that has spent over four decades feeding families, helping with clothing and energy costs, and doing the work that defines real community.
At Nightjar, we believe that good health starts with connection. And it’s not abstract. It happens when a customer at the front desk overhears that we’re accepting donations for the local food pantry, tells our team how they grew up receiving Care & Share during the holidays, and then takes out their wallet to contribute $150 right there and then. By the end of the drive, our collection table looked like a New England harvest-style portrait of generosity: green beans, baked beans, yams, soups, peanut butter, apple juice, and even a few crispy fried onions because those are freaking delicious!!
So to everyone who donated: thank you.
You didn’t just fill a box, you filled a gap. At Nightjar, we like to think we’re more than a dispensary in Niantic. Come visit, pick up something to help you unwind, and stay tuned for our next community drive.
